Defence White Paper – decisions versus achievements to date
* Defence Minister Marise Payne’s view of progress to date.
One year on from the release of the release of the Defence White Paper, the Integrated Investment Program and the Defence Industry Policy Statement, pressing decisions have been made on major Defence acquisitions such as the submarine program, Defence industry support and the EA-18G Growler, to name but a few.
Addressing the ADM Congress recently, Minister Payne said “together, these are three landmark documents that for the first time align strategy, capability and resources in developing Australia’s defence.
“They direct investment in a Defence Force that will be more capable, more agile and more potent, with a fully funded and fully costed investment program. And they transform the Defence-to-industry relationship that is at the heart of delivering capability.”
Industry and capability progress
Minister Payne said there have been a number of success stories in the preceding 12 months, including 44 project approvals achieved, towards $9.4 billion in value.
“Some of these approvals include the historic capability announcements made regarding our naval modernisation plans,” the Minister said.
